Early Times Report

SUNDERBANI, Aug 26: For the past one and half years Amarnath a resident of Nahoti in this block of Rajouri district has been making frequent rounds in order to know the fate of his file relating to supply of tractor to him on subsidized rate under the SMEM scheme.
The SMEM scheme has been launched by Government of India so as to provide tractor and other agricultural machinery to the farmers across the country on subsidized rate. The department of agriculture is the nodal agency that has to provide the agricultural machinery to the farmers who deserve the same. Amarnath received a shock when he was told by Agriculture Extension Officer (AEO) Sunderbani, Ashwani Kumar Sharma that his file is not in his office. Since Amarnath was not provided any receipt for the file submitted by him he could not counter the officer’s claim and pose any question to the AEO.
“The file has misplaced in the office of AEO who has been given the charge of Sunderbani block after being promoted as Subject Matter Specialist (SMS). He does not want to give the tractor to me for the reasons best known to him. This is despite the fact that two people who applied after me have been given the tractors,” said Amarnath.
Meanwhile, Early Times has learnt from sources that the officials of Office of AEO Sunderbani have burnt some of the files some 15 days adding that many beneficiaries would suffer out of the same. They said the officials would pass the files of only those who would grease their palms in this regard.
Principal Secretary, Agriculture Production Department, Naveen Chaudhary told Early Times that the aggrieved should lodge a formal complaint in this regard.
