EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Aug 28: Around 60000 souls living in far flung areas of Kishtwar district will soon be deprived from getting the ration under Public Distribution System (PDS) with the introduction of Electronic-Point of Sale (E-PoS) machines for food grains at Government run sale depots as many far-off areas in Kishtwar district lack internet facility.
It may be recalled that the Government of India has made the use of internet based E-PoS machines mandatory for distribution of the ration at Government stores with effect from September and under no circumstances any ration card holder will be given the ration until and unless the rationees will use its thumb impressions for generating the Electronic Ration Tickets.
The E-PoS machines according to the officials is AADHAR based enrolment of each ration card holder connected with the national portal of Government of India as a part of One Nation One Ration Card adding that all these machines works through a SIM card with Internet connectivity. The officials said that after feeding the AADHAR number of ration card holder, the E-PoS machine to crosscheck the authenticity and genuineness of the ration card holder ask for the thumb impression of the ration card holder and the Electronic Ration Ticket, but due to non-availability of mobile connectivity as well as internet, around 60000 souls in different areas of Kishtwar District will hence forth receive no ration till the food centers from where these people received ration get an internet connectivity.
As per the official data available with Early Times, 85 food store depots spread over various areas of Kishtwar District have been identified by the department as sale depots without internet connectivity.
Among these 85 depots, all the sale depots in Marwah (13), Warwan (3) and Dachhan (14) having population of around 40000 souls are the areas without internet connectivity.
In Paddar the department has identified 15 ration depots, Chatroo (6), Mughal Maidan (8), Drabshalla (7), Thakraie (3), Trigam (2), Bhunzwah (4) and Nagsini (10) as food centers without internet connectivity.
Speaking to Early Times over the issue, Assistant Director Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Kishtwar, Ghulam Rasool Lone said that they have already taken up the matter with the higher authorities, adding that they are waiting for the directions from senior officials in this regard.
“We are bound to implement the directions issued by the government. We have to shift the distribution of ration from next month to E-PoS system,” Lone said.
