Early Times Report

RAJOURI, Aug 31: In a startling revelation around 3,000-4,000 Kanals of land have been encroached in the Nowshera forest division of this district in the recent past and more than two dozen houses have come up on the forest land in recent past.
This came to the fore when a team of Early Times visited the area and found that green gold smugglers continue to encroach’ the forest land in this district. Early Times received a complaint from Manzoor Ahmad, a local about the recent encroachment and following this a team visited the area and found that encroachment has taken place.
The encroachment has taken place in wards 6 and 7 of the village Rugga in the Pataat Panchayat of Nowshera forest division in this district. The Nowshera forest division has been in the news for the wrong reasons in the past as well since thousands of Kanals of forest land has been encroached.
“It is highly unfortunate that the people who were entrusted with the responsibility of preserving forests are facilitating the encroachment of forest land. The latest encroachment has taken place in the compartment number 50/D and in total 3,000-4,000 Kanals of land has been encroached,” said Manzoor.
Manzoor said that the encroachment has taken place inside boundary pillars 6 and 7 of Nowshera forest division. He said that a powerful man along with a forest guard is involved in the overall process of encroachment adding that they are inviting their relatives to come and construct houses in the forest.
Repeated attempts to contact Conservator Forests, Rajouri B Dass and DFO Nowshera Suresh Manda bore no fruits as none among them picked up the phone despite continuous calls. The locals said that verbal as well as written complaints have been made with DFO Nowshera and Range Officer, but nothing has been done so far.
The locals appealed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene in the matter and order a probe so that punitive action is taken against the errant officers.
