Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 31: After facing embarrassment, National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah his son Omar Abdullah have gone into the damage control mode. They are giving joint interviews to send a message that all is well between them.
As per the reports crisis within the party had deepened after differences arose between Farooq and Omar Abdullah with both contradicting the statements of each other.
The party cadres as per the sources were unhappy over father-son duo toeing different lines.
Sensing trouble Farooq and Omar Abdullah have finally begun presenting a joint face before the masses. For the first time, they have started giving joint interviews to the media organisations with a sole aim of driving home a point that they are on the same page.
It’s in place to mention here that on Article 370 abrogation, delimitation commission, Gupkar declaration, contesting of elections, both Farooq and Omar were issuing contradictory statements.
“...different political ideologies... have been set aside for a larger goal. We wanted to send a wider message to New Delhi that, on this question of what happened on August 5, when the process for the nullification of Article 370 that gave Jammu & Kashmir special status began], liked-minded parties will come together,” said Omar Abdullah in a joint interview to a national daily with his father, Farooq Abdullah.
Omar in his earlier interviews had stated that he has no clue over whether the Gupkar resolution signed last year on August 4 is still intact or not as he is not aware about the stand of other political groups. “The NC hasn’t had a chance to take stock of its own status, much less the status of other political parties as part of that Gupkar declaration. What do the other participants in that meeting think, we don’t know. So, it would be wrong on my part to assume where other parties stand on it.”
On the contrary, Farooq Abdullah has said that Gupkar declaration is a valid document and that he would raise it in the parliament. He added further: “We all reiterate that we are bound, wholly, by the contents of the Gupkar Declaration and will unwaveringly adhere to it. We are committed to strive for the restoration of Articles 370 and 35A, the Constitution of J-K and the restoration of the state and any division of the state is unacceptable to us. We unanimously reiterate that there can be 'nothing about us without us.”
