Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 31: Although authorities are urging people to use water judiciously, the functioning of Public Health Department, popularly known as ‘water works’ is completely collapsed in Jammu South due to casual approach of the authorities.
Many stations in Jammu South are non-functional but authorities are still in deep slumber. Residents of Gandhi Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, Channi, Shastri Nagar, Nai Basti, Rampura are facing the worst ever water crises due to the casual approach of the authorities. Casual approach of the authorities can be gauged from the fact that one station situated at Vijay Park Nai Basti, which caters need of Nai Basti, Patel Nagar, Rampur and some parts of Gandhi Nagar developed some technical snag on July 14 but authorities adopted delay tactics in getting the station repair.
Sources said that to streamline the function of the Jal Shakti (PHE Department), which was earlier notorious for rampant corruption, higher-ups have decided that all repair works should be done through e-tendering. “After setting up an e-tendering system to check corruption, the functioning of the department has completely collapsed because this system has minimized chances of corruption”, sources said.
Meanwhile the Jal Shakti department has requested residents of areas falling under the jurisdiction of Jal Shakti (PHE) City Division NO II Jammu to use water judiciously.
As per the department, the water supply has been affected due to incessant rains to Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Nanak Nagar, Sanjay Nagar, Bahu Preet Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, Trikuta Nagar Extension, Gangyal, Deshmesh Nagar, Kunjwani, Bandhurakh, Chatha, Narwal, Bathindi, Jallalbad, Sunjwan, Doongian, Reika, Channi Rama, Channi Himmat, Deeli, Greater Kailash and Sainik Colony areas. The public has been appealed to use the water judiciously these days.
