Jammu, Oct 2: The officials of Municipal Councils and other government departments in Poonch and Rajouri districts turned Gandhi Jayati celebrations into a photo opportunity by carrying out the sanitation drives in the areas which were already clean, locals alleged on Friday.
They said that majority of the municipality conducted the cleanliness drives in only those places where hardly any garbage was present.
“The cleaning drives on the birth anniversary celebration of the father of the nation were rather customary,” locals said.
Residents of Rajouri and Poonch towns alleged that the toilets in the city areas remain dirty, unhygienic and unclean most of the time.
The Bus Stand Poonch is filled with garbage and the cleanliness is hardly seen there.
“The real tribute to Gandhi Ji would have been if municipal officials had carried out cleanliness drive in the dirty bus stand but they didn’t do it.
The cleanliness drive being carried out at the selected places has proved it beyond doubt that officials just completed a formality and indulged in a publicity stunt,” residents said.
They said, “During rainy days, bus stands in both cities turn into cesspools, drains remain clogged with dirt and polythene bags making it difficult for the people to visit there,” they added.
