Gupkar Declaration to decay soon!
Signatories start infighting, doubt each other
10/2/2020 11:33:05 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 2: The so called Gupkar Declaration that had pledged to fight for the restoration of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir is likely to decay soon as a major infighting has started between the signatories of the document.
The political-behavior of senior National Conference leader and the self-styled patron of the Gupkar Declaration, Dr Farooq Abdullah, has triggered the internal bickering with others saying that the NC leadership has “duped them.”
The signatories to the Gupkar Declaration have accused Dr Abdullah for the “silent burial” of the declaration by not properly taking up the issue of Articles 370 and 35A in his address to the Parliament nor he raised any questions over the issue.
While the Peoples Democratic Party, which is signatory to the document, already looks annoyed with the NC for “not properly picking up” the issue of detention of PDP President Mehbooba Mufti in the Parliament, the other signatories like Peoples Conference led by Sajjad Gani Lone have launched a direct attack on Dr Abdullah.
Senior PC leader Abdul Gani Wakil took a direct dig at Abdullah. “It is shocking to see him (Abdullah) give a complete miss to revocation of Article 370… He didn’t utter a single word about Article 370 and the declaration,” senior vice president of PC recently told media. It was reliably learnt that Wakil gave the statement on the instructions of PC President Sajjad Lone.
Though after the statement by the PC, Dr Abdullah made some controversial remarks on Article 370, his move couldn’t impress other signatories of the so called Gupkar declaration.
On August 22, in a surprise development, six political parties including National Conference, PDP, Peoples Conference, Congress, CPI(M) and ANC signed “Gupkar Declaration-II” and vowed to fight collectively against revocation of J&K’s special status.
While the so called Gupkar Declaration adopted on August 4, 2019 was already dumped by such politicians after their release from prison, NC had taken a new lead in August 2020 to come up with part-II of the declaration. “But this declaration is crumbling like sand castle,” said a politician.
Despite repeated attempts, the concerned politicians were not available for comments.
