National Conference president and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah has once again stirred the Hornet’s Nest by pinning hopes on China.
This is not the first time that Farooq Abdullah has talked about China, earlier also he had stated that at present “Kashmiris would like China to rule them.” Now, he has stated that he hopes that “Article 370 will be restored with China’s support.”
Farooq Abdullah talking about China again and again has not gone well with the nationalist people across the country and everyone is asking one simple question that how can a leader of a mainstream party, who has been a three time chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, pin hopes on an enemy country which has declared a war against us.
History stands testimony to the fact that Kashmir centric leaders during the past seven decades misled the people by talking about Pakistan and Azadi. After the abrogation of J&K’s special status and its bifurcation into two union territories, leaders like Abdullah have started talking about China and are trying to build another narrative.
The Government of India (GoI) should take a serious note about the people who are trying to change the discourse. If Abdullah is not kept under check it can set a wrong precedent and few other leaders, who believe in creating confusion, can follow in his footsteps to score Brownie points over him. This can help the adversary in sending a wrong message to the world.
It’s unfortunate that incumbent Member Parliament from Srinagar, Farooq Abdullah, who is enjoying all the perks and privileges provided by the Government of India (GoI) is pinning hopes on the enemy country. He needs to be told that India has changed and in New India there is no place for the leaders, who cannot be loyal to their own country. Farooq Abdullah should tender an unconditional apology for his utterances and if he fails to do so then law should take its own course. Kashmir centric leaders should realize that as on date they stand on crossroads as they have lost their credibility. Neither people trust them nor is the Centre interested in handing over any assignment to them. Gone are the days when they used to blackmail New Delhi and hoodwink the people of Kashmir. Their attempts to coin new slogans won’t help their cause as everyone is aware of the fact that they have been cut to size.
