Lackadaisical attitude of authorities delays Karlah-Gori Kund road

EARLY TIMES REPORT

UDHAMPUR, Oct 17: Perceived as a vital road link which would have reduced the distance between Karlah temple at Patnitop to Gori Kund near Sudh Mahadev to about 10 kilometres, has been getting delayed for the last several years due to lackadaisical attitude of the authorities.
If completed the road would have helped in boosting the tourism and pilgrimage in the hilly district of Udhampur to a larger extent as the distance between Patnitop and Sudh Mahadev as well as the surrounding area of picturesque Mantalai will get shortened for the ease and convenience of the tourists.
Former MLA from Chenani, Dina Nath Bhagat claimed that he had inaugurated the Katwalt to Gali Mandola stretch of this road in the year 2016 which is about six kms of the total length and the other portion of the road from Gali Mandola to Karlah, Patnitop was held up due to no clearance from the Forest Department, after that the Legislative Assembly got dissolved in the year 2018.
Puran Chand, BJP’s Sarpanch of panchayat Karlah informed that the then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited Chenani area in 2012 and a memorandum demanding the road from Patnitop to Gori Kund was submitted to him wherein it was highlighted that the proposed road connectivity may act as a boon for tourism promotion in the area. He also said that Omar Abdullah led government promptly reacted to the demand and soon a survey by Revenue and other concerned departments was done for the road but we don’t know why the work was not started.
“Now during the recent visit of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to Udhampur, we again took up the issue,” he maintained.
Som Raj, Sarpanch of panchayat Katwalt Gori Kund, who is also affiliated to the BJP informed that about half of the road from Katwalt to Gali Mandola is almost complete but the problem is of the remaining stretch of about five kms from Gali Mandola to Karlah Patnitop which is nowhere in the sight and because of which entire project is hanging in balance.
“The project is having big tourism potential as tourists from Patnitop can easily reach using this road to five vital pilgrim as well as tourist spots including Gori Kund, Sudh Mahadev, Mantali, Hari Dabbar and Beanisung well known as Panjtirthi just by travelling about 12 kms while otherwise they have to go via Chenani side which makes it about 40 kms of journey,” he maintained.
