Militants laying down arms during live encounters is a major success for the security forces in Kashmir.
In one month, eight militants have surrendered during the gunfights with security forces. Militants, laying down arms is a clear message to the separatists that the young people whom they have lured towards militancy have started realizing that it’s no point dying for nothing.
During the past few months many over ground workers of the militants have been arrested and their network has taken a hit. It appears that the security forces are closing down on the militancy and the three decade long Pakistan sponsored proxy war is on its last legs.
Recently, top Army Commander said that the infiltration has declined but he was quick to add that Pakistan cannot be trusted as it may have some other plans. After the abrogation of J&K’s special status many things have changed. The biggest change which has occurred is that the people who used to call Kashmir a dispute, have been left red faced. Their rhetoric and slogans stand punctured. They have been left with nothing to sell. The separatists, who used to show big dreams to the people, stand cornered as on date and they are looking for their addresses. Kashmir centric leaders like Mehbooba Mufti and Farooq Abdullah are trying to put fuel into the fire by claiming that they will get everything back. These leaders are toeing the line of separatists and are out to instigate the masses.
Common people in the Valley have realized that violence, stone pelting and taking up arms won’t take them anywhere. The militants too seem to have understood the futility of taking up the armed forces head on as it’s an established fact that they are no match for the well equipped Indian Army and other security forces. If militants want to live then they have only one option i.e. to lay down the arms and surrender. If they can’t do it then their days are numbered. Kashmir centric leaders who are on way to don the mantle of separatists should bear in mind that their predecessors turned Kashmir into a graveyard. And they too are following the same path. The security forces have been fighting militancy for the past 30-years and they have no problem in fighting militants for the next 30-years also. India’s policy is clear that terrorism won’t be tolerated and the ones who are supporting it will have to bite the dust.
