Muftis, Abdullahs always invented ways to ridicule nationalism

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 30: As recently Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti hogged the headlines over her indecent flag remarks citing Article 370 abrogation as a reason for her rage, National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah had made a similar statement three years ago that too when Jammu and Kashmir’s special status was intact and alive.
The story goes back to the year 2017. On November 27, that year, Farooq Abdullah dared the Centre to hoist the National Flag at Lal Chowk in the heart of Srinagar city before talking about unfurling it in PoK.
"They (Centre and BJP) are talking about raising flag in PoK. I ask them first you go and raise the tricolour at Lal Chowk in Srinagar. They can’t even do that here and they are talking about PoK," he had said. "If you don’t like to hear the truth, then live in the untruth. The truth is that (PoK) is not our part and this (J&K) is not their part. That is the truth," Abdullah said defending his comment that PoK does not belong to India.
Through such bizarre and uncalled for statements, jibes and rants one gets to know that appeasing separatists in Kashmir has been a hallmark of the politics played by Abdullahs and Muftis in Kashmir.
Recently, after being released from 14- month long detention, Mehbooba said that she wouldn’t be holding the tri-colour till Jammu and Kashmir’s special status is restored. Prior to this when Article 370 was intact she had warned that no one in Kashmir would hold the tri-colour if special status is even touched. However, she justified her recent statement, lamenting that she has made the remarks due to the abrogation of Article 370. Meanwhile, Dr Farooq Abdullah’s three year old statement is proving that the Kashmir centric mainstream political groups were also appeasing separatists in Valley no matter whether 370 was intact or abrogated.
“This is bizarre that now Abdullahs and Muftis are justifying their anti- national rants in the backdrop of Article 370 abrogation. What was happening prior to that? What had happened in 2017 when Farooq Abdullah dared GOI to hoist tri-colour in Kashmir? What had happened in 2019 when during the poll rallies, NC’s Akbar Lone raised pro-Pakistan slogans. These theatrics were always at play and need no justification,” said a senior political functionary here.
Interestingly, on October 30, 2018 then Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik had admitted that when Mehbooba Mufti was the chief minister of the erstwhile state, the recruitment of militants and stone pelting incidents witnessed a spike.
