Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 2: The Institute of Information and Technology (IIT) Kanpur has invited Central University of Jammu’s scientists and faculties which would be designated as institute of repute (IoR) to serve under the National Clean Air Mission (NCAM).
Dr. Sachchida N Tripathy, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Kanpur, in a letter addressed to Vice Chancellor, CUJ Prof Ashok Aima has invited CUJ to be designated as IoR to serve under the NCAM. CUJ has been requested to nominate scientists/ faculties from your Institute to work in collaboration with the National Knowledge Network and Jammu & Kashmir Pollution Control Board to achieve the targets of the National Clean Air Mission. The National Knowledge Network (NKN) is being formed under the NCAM with a vision to build local technical capacities in order to have a larger pool of institutes to support activities under NCAP. NKN is also proposed to prepare the identified Institute of Repute (IoR) not only for the current programme but also to create adequate capacity in the States to support future air quality management efforts.
MoEF&CC had launched NCAP as a long-term, time-bound, national-level strategy to tackle the air pollution problem across India in a comprehensive manner, with targets 20-30 percent reduction in Particulate Matter concentrations by 2024, keeping 2017 as the base year for the comparison of concentration.
Focused efforts are being made at this stage to attain tangible progress in air quality improvement and the Programme has now become a Mission. Apart from scientific, technical and socio economic aspects, his effort will also include health risk aspects of air pollution.
