Kid’s Play! Senior PDP leaders stay away from Mehbooba’s diktats
11/3/2020 12:34:35 AM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Nov 2: Even as the release of former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party, President, Mehbooba Mufti has boosted party activities, most of the senior leaders are staying away from such events.
Sources said the senior leaders of PDP are apprehensive of the strategy adopted by the party to seek restoration of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources said despite standing instructions, such leaders including close relatives of Mehbooba have been trying to be in the hiding. A source in the PDP said recently the party had directed the senior leadership to join street protests outside the PDP office in Srinagar.
Sources said barring one senior leader, only the youth leaders were visible on the ground on the fateful day.
Sources said even for the joint activities with so called Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration, only the youth leaders from the side of PDP can be seen.
“While other parties have brought in senior faces, they (PDP) have been reduced to young faces,” said a leader from a nationalist party on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said the senior leaders have apprehensions that some of the “brazen decisions” as being taken by the PDP President could “land them in trouble.”
Sources said resentment is brewing among the PDP leaders over some of the controversial statements as made by their party president.
“While some of the senior leaders from Jammu have already resigned, others from the party in Jammu and Kashmir may follow the suit if such political aggression goes on,” said a political observer.
It’s pertinent to mention that since the abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, PDP seems to have been reduced to youth voices alone.
On the anniversary of the abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, the PDP had taken a lead to stage symbolic protests.
“That day also only three youth faces were present,” said a political observer. Despite repeated attempts, the PDP leaders were not available for comments.
