Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 2: The Lawyers Action Committee, carrying the struggle for opening of High Court and Subordinate Courts for physical hearing and removing the restrictions on the entry of lawyers and public in the courts, held an impressive Dharna in the Janipura Court area Jammu.
Since 15th of October, the Advocates practicing in Jammu Wing of High Court and subordinate courts are agitating with the demands for opening of all courts for physical entry to lawyers and public, resume physical hearing.
Accepting hard copies of cases, opening the locked Bar Rooms of lawyers, providing stamp papers and tickets within court premises through stamp vendors, immediately opening of Consumer Courts, shifting back Registry of Documents to Judicial Officers, withdrawing contempt initiated against the lawyers and holding immediate election to the J&K Bar Council.
The Lawyers Dharna was addressed by H.C. Jalmeria, JA Kazmi, Kuldip Singh Parihar,Usman Slaria, Subodh Jamwal, Surjit Singh Andotra, Amit Gupta, Bhavishya Sudan. The Lawyers Action Committee expressed anguish over the notification issued today by the High Court of J&K whereby present status of restrictions on entry of lawyers and public in courts has been continued up to 30th Nov. They impressed upon the High Court to reconsider its decision and remove restrictions of entry in courts and allow physical hearings in cases. Already seven months are over when restrictions of physical hearing were imposed in courts. Continuation of restrictions up to 30th November would mean closing entry to courts for eight months.
Restrictions in other offices and socio-economic fields have been eased so there is no genuine reason to impose strong restrictions in courts. This amounts to denial of access to public to the justice system provided by constitution and other laws passed under it. They also impressed upon the Judicial and Govt. authorities to concede the very genuine demands projected by the protesting lawyers in the best interest of general public and also of the legal fraternity.
Virtual mode of functioning of courts is no alternative to physical appearance of lawyers, judges, and the litigating public.
Other prominent participants in today’s Dharna included CS Gupta, Rajunder Kumar, Kulbhushan Sajgotra, Manohar Gupta, Babu Ram Sharma, JP Sharma, Surinder Rao, Madan Lal, Abdul Rouf, Vijay Sharma, Kh Mohd Rashid, Ashok Kumar Chib, PS Pawar, Ashwani Khajuria, Rajinder Jamwal, SM Wazahat, Kunal Singh Chib, DS Jamwal, Divya Ishan, Jyoti Sharma,Baldev Singh, Rahil Manhas, AK Sharma, Amit Pathania,Muzaffar Ali Shah, Vishal Tandon, Arjun Singh, Ravinder Kumar,Atul Raina, Sunit Kumar Lochan, PL Sharma, Nikash Sharma, besides others.
