DPEO holds meeting with political representatives; reviews election preparedness

KISHTWAR, Nov 16: To discuss the preparedness and guidelines issued by the Election Authorities for the District Development Council elections and Panchayat by- polls, District Panchayat Election Officer Kishtwar, Ashok Kumar Sharma today convened a meeting with representatives of the political parties, here. The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Pawan Parihar; Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Dr Amir Hussain; Deputy DEO, Masood Ahmed Bichoo; ENT Kishtwar, Angrez Singh Jasrotia. At the outset the political representatives welcomed the new DC and assured to extend their full cooperation and support on every front. The participants were apprised about the MCC, and other guidelines, besides various issues related to the conduct of the elections in the district like the security of the contesting candidates, establishment of counting centres etc. The DPEO invited suggestions from the political representatives on various matters. Copies of Model Code of Conduct and Electoral rolls were also provided to participants during the meeting.
Meanwhile, the DPEO reviewed the preparedness for DDC/ Panchayat By-Elections in a separate meeting attended by the nodal officers. The details of polling stations, polling locations with regard to accessibility, telecom connectivity, infrastructure, transport availability, law and order vulnerability and other related issues were shared in the meeting. Transport plan, induction and de- induction of poll parties, communication plan, Training plan, printing of ballot papers etc. were also discussed and necessary instructions were passed for smooth, free and fair conduct of elections. In the first two phases, the elections in Kishtwar district would be held in the far flung Marwah Warwan, Dachhan and Paddar areas. The DPEO asked the officers to be well prepared for this most challenging task. The meeting further discussed in detail the modalities for the dispatch of polling parties, logistics and election material in these far flung areas.
