Early Times Report

Rajouri, Nov 16: The Rural Development Department (RDD) Rajouri not replying various RTI applications due to alleged corruption has ruined the reputation of the department.
Sources told Early Times that there are many departments in the Rajouri district which are not replying the RTI applications as per guidelines given in the Act and among them the RDD has emerged as the most notorious department.
An RTI applicant namely Mohammad Abid son of Mohammad Rashid of Panchayat Lower Jamola had filed an application with ACD Rajouri on 26-8-2020, who further forwarded it to the concerned BDO Kotranka by email and asked to reply within specified time period.
Mohammad Abid said that even after a month, he was not given a reply and he contacted the ACD Rajouri and informed him about it, consequently he gave number of BDO Kotranak and asked him (Abid) to contact him but despite number of visits to his office, the BDO didn’t reply and continued to put off the matter.
He further said that he had asked for information about various works done in Panchayat Lower Jamola including PMAY, toilets, lane, drains etc. but he didn’t get a reply. “There is huge corruption in the works done in the panchayat,” he alleged.
“Fake payments were made in several works, which are not found on ground level. Repeated payments were released for the same works. Not only this, the works decided by Deh Majlis are not considered and executed by the department. The concerned GRS openly flaunts that he is an influential man and nobody can take action against him,” he said.
Similarly, the Parori is another panchayat, where fake payments were released for the works not done on ground level.
When ET contacted the DDC Rajouri, he said that he had received several complaints and said that he would take a meeting of all BDOs and other officials and will direct them to provide reply to the applicants. He further said that they have decided to link RTI reply to official portal “Aawaz e Pirnjal’ in coming days.
