EARLY TIMES REPORT

KISHTWAR, Nov 16: The much hyped Gupkar alliance headed by Dr Farooq Abdullah that has announced to fight the District Development Council elections jointly seems to be heading towards a major confrontation after main stakeholders PDP and NC have decided to fight elections against each other in Kishtwar.
As per the details available with Early Times, the National Conference in Kishtwar constituency handed over the mandate to local businessman Zakir Hussain Butt and the same was handed over to him by former MoS Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo and District President NC Kishtwar Tanveer Ahmed Kichloo that led to the confrontation between the Gupkar alliance partners.
Following the surfacing of the videos and photos of the NC event, the PDP supporters started blaming the National Conference making the announcement of the party candidate even before a decision taken by the Gupkar alliance.
Speaking to Early Times, PDP district president Kishtwar Sheikh Nasir Hussain said that he is also an aspiring candidate for Kishtwar constituency, adding that Gupkar alliance has yet to make the list of candidates for 8th and last phase of DDC elections and accuses the NC of playing “petty politics”. He said that NC is not following what has been agreed by the Gupkar alliance, further added that by announcing the candidate ahead of the name finalised by the Gupkar alliance is the mockery of the terms and conditions that binds the various parties that are the part of the alliance.
He said that the alliance was framed to keep the communal and divisive forces at bay. He said that he is also going to context the elections and blamed NC for fielding party block president Warwan against PDP candidate at the time when the party withdrew its candidate from Marwah where NC candidate was jointly declared as alliance candidate.
After hectic parleys and sensing the emerging political scenario, PDP District President openly made an announcement for contesting election against NC candidate.
In a video message circulated by Sheikh Nasir Hussain, he blamed the muscle and money power for degradation of the political standard in Kishtwar District and made an appeal to the people to vote and elect an educated person instead of choosing those who had no political vision.
Now it remains to be seen whether the ground situation in Kishtwar will make any impact on overall stability of the alliance in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir or the same will remain confined to Kishtwar District only.
