Befitting Reply

The first four phases of the ongoing District Development Council elections in Jammu and Kashmir have ended on a positive note as people have come out in droves to exercise their right to vote.
A good number of people exercising their franchise in Kashmir have proved it beyond doubt that fear of guns is disappearing fast and their participation is a befitting reply to the anti-nationals, who are still busy selling dreams and illusions.
These elections are the first polls in the past 30-years where no boycott call has been given. Otherwise it was a precedent in the Valley that separatists and the militant groups used to issue a poll boycott campaign ahead of any elections.
Post August 5, 2019, the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has changed completely. The separatists and Pakistan stooges, who used to dictate terms to the people by threatening them have been cut to their size. A handful of Pakistani stooges like Yasin Malik, Asiya Andrabi, Sheikh Rasheed and a few others, who used to orchestrate trouble in Kashmir, are cooling their heels in a prison, while the militants are on the run as security forces are not allowing them to regroup. The hate mongers and the violence preachers have been taken care off. This has led to the situation easing out in the Valley to a great extent. Since J&K's reorganization none of the separatist groups have called for a shutdown. Nor have they dared to issue any chalo call.
The Government of India (GoI) launching a massive crackdown against the Pak agents and others in the Valley has gone a long way in restoring the confidence of the common people. Masses have realized that they don't need to be scared anymore, nor they have to fear anyone. Participating in elections is no sin, and the ones who used to threaten them with guns and bullets are no more relevant.
The ongoing DDC elections have set a tone and tenor for the forthcoming democratic exercises that would be held in J&K in coming days. Kashmir centric leaders, who during the past three decades have thrived on the boycott politics, will have to work hard to make their presence felt on the ground. They can no longer rely on the low poll percentage. People coming out to vote in large numbers in Kashmir is an ample proof of the fact that they want peace, prosperity and development.
