Instead of giving reply, PIO compels applicant to visit office for taking reply
PWD (R&B) Dept Reasi makes mockery of RTI Act

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 8: Making the mockery of RTI Act, the Public Works (Road and Building) Department Reasi, instead of furnishing reply as per RTI application, has allegedly compelled the applicant to visit the office for taking reply.
The move of the PIO PW(R&B) Department Reasi has irked the applicant, who termed it a sheer violation of the guidelines under the RTI Act. Ashutosh Khanna, an RTI activist, told Early Times that that he had submitted an RTI application around 5-6 months ago demanding the records of works executed in the last five years by the department but despite the lapse of specified time period, the department didn't give a reply.
"When I contacted the PIO PW(R&B) Department Reasi regarding the delay in reply of RTI, he asked me to visit the office personally to take reply and cited the reason of bulk data, which shocked me because as per guidelines, the office is duty bound to provide information through post," he alleged.
He alleged that the continuous delay in providing information is only because of non-maintenance of records by the department. "There is a huge possibility that the department has not maintained its records. I demand the district administration to conduct an inquiry about the records of the works done in the last five years," he said.
Pertinently, an issue of a road work was highlighted way back wherein the department failed to produce relevant documents, which clearly shows that the department is involved in embezzlements.
When Early Times contacted XEn PW (R&B) Reasi, he admitted that he had asked the applicant to visit the office for a reply as there was huge data sought under the RTI.
