Daal Mein Kaala: Abdullahs go slow on campaign after Govt probes
12/9/2020 12:00:52 AM
Early Times Report
jammu, Dec 8: Even as various political parties contesting the ongoing District Development Council elections have been putting in their "best possible" faces for the campaigning, the National Conference has been "unnerved" by the absence of the Abdullahs from the scene.
While the former Chief Minister and NC Patron, Dr Farooq Abdullah and his son and successor, Omar Abdullah have been largely away from campaigning for the NC faces in the fray, resentment is brewing among the party cadres over their such a "shocking behavior."
Even on December 3, when senior leaders of other parties, including Sajjad Lone of Peoples Conference, were campaigning in the field, Omar Abdullah spent the day holding a closed door meeting at the NC headquarter in Srinagar.
The Abdullahs seem to have gone slow after their names figured in numerous scams. While Dr Abdullah was recently questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the multi-crore cricket scam.Sources said the NC leaders have started questioning as to why the Abdullahs shied away from campaigning and that if there was a "fixed match between them and some other parties."
It was reliably learnt that the NC leadership would sent a formal letter expressing displeasure over the cold response of the Abdullahs towards the DDC elections.
Sources said the NC leaders have decided to call a meeting at the Nawa-e-Subh in Srinagar soon to question the absence of the Abdullahs from campaigning.
"The shyness of the Abdullahs till the first three phases of polling has been apologetic and one can only ask as to what has prevented them from leading the party in such crucial times," said a political analyst.
Sources said many of the NC leaders are asking that if the Abdullahs were "trying to save their personal skin by staying away from the polling."
Despite repeated attempts the Abdullahs were not available for comments.
