GDC organises extension lecture on “Aroma Plants, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship”

JAMMU, Dec 8:An extension lecture on “Aroma Plants, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship” was organized by Career Counselling and Placement Cell of Govt. Degree College Darhal in which Dr. Ashaq Raza a renowned speaker and researcher was the resource person. In his presentation Dr. Ashaq gave a detail of the Aroma Plants identified under the CSIR-National Aroma Mission with special focus on Pir Panjaal area. He talked about Lavender, Lemon Grass, Clarysage, Mentha, Ocimum, Jammu Monarda, Rose Marry, Geranium, Marygold. He told that overall 18 Aroma plants have been covered under the mission of which 12 are being cultivated in Jammu and Kashmir. He also talked about the significance of the oils produced from these Aroma Plants. He particularly mentioned about the high cost of Lavender oil and the profitability associated with its production. He also mentioned about the skill enhancement and entrepreneurship probability associated with these plants. On this occasion Principal of the college Prof. Sumanesh Jasrotia thanked the resource person for a highly informative lecture on Aroma Plants and skill courses.
He said that the research work of Dr. Raza shall definitely be more fruitful for enlightening the unemployed youth of the area regarding the prospects in such planatations in Pir Panjaal. He also encouraged the students of the college to attend more such programmes for their better academic growth. Finally an impressive vote of thanks was presented by senior faculty member Dr. Ahsan Ul Rehman Rizvi.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Riaz. The whole programme was organized by Coordinator Career Counselling and Placement Cell of the college Dr. Ather Aziz Raina.
The programme was attended by a large number of students and faculty members of the college.
