| KVK Leh organizes outreach programme | | |  Early Times Report
Leh, Dec 13: Krishi Vigyan Kendra- Leh, SKUAST-K organized an outreach programme for the farming community at village Takmachik of Leh District under its ‘Reaching out to Farmers’ Initiative’. The programme was organized in collaboration with Ladakh Agri Clinic Center and Organic Agriculture Store, Ladakh. Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Feroz Din Sheikh, Programme Coordinator at KVK-Leh informed that at present in times of pandemic, when it is not feasible to go for mass gatherings, experts from KVK-Leh reach out to the farming community to have a direct face to face interaction with the progressive farmers, youths, local representatives and farm women of the area. This initiative besides taking the technology to the farmers’ doorsteps also helps us to get a firsthand knowledge of the various constraints faced by the farmers and to provide them with appropriate solutions.
In this series, awareness cum training programme on ‘Organic Practices for Sustainable Agriculture’ and ‘Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs)’ was conducted at village Takmachik, the first organic village of Leh district. Dr. Kumar while conducting the said programme made farmers aware of the ill effects of chemical intensive farming; highlighted the importance of organic farming and various organic practices to be carried out for sustainable agricultural production in this already fragile region. |
