Udhampur, Dec 13: People in Kashira Panchayat area in Udhampur-1 block on Sunday thronged the polling booths to vote for the candidate who would develop the constituency.
After casting his vote in the 6th phase of the ongoing District Development Council polls, jubilant Charan Dass, 50, said that he was happy to participate in the DDC elections as the same were held for the first time in the history of J&K.
He also said that he hopes that issues of bad roads, power and water crisis in his village will be resolved when the elected representatives would assume offices and start working.
Nisha Devi 18, a student was the first time voter and she exuded hope that her vote will help in development of her village.
The polling officers said that the polling started at 7:00 in the morning with a heavy rush of voters and it continued with same enthusiasm throughout the day.
Proper security arrangements were put in place to prevent any untoward incident but violations of COVID-19 norms, including social distancing, were reported from many areas. |
