Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 17: To give an open challenge to PDP president and former chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti in her home turf, BJP’s senior leader Shahnawaz Hussain raised the national flag at Bijbehara amid shouting of patriotic slogans. “Mehbooba Mufti had warned that if Article 370 and 35-A tinkered with, then there would be no one in the state to hold the tricolor. I am here to hold the national flag at Bijbehara which is home town of Mehbooba Mufti”, Hussain asserted while holding national flag in his hands amid shouting of slogans. Not only Hussain, a large number of BJP workers who were present in the meeting raised the national flag to give an open challenge to Mehbooba.
While as chief minister of J&K, Mehbooba Mufti on July 28, 2017 had warned her that time’s coalition partner that any tinkering with the ‘special rights and privileges of the people of the state will leave no one there to hold the tricolor. “Let me be very clear. By doing this (challenging Article 35(A), you are not targeting the separatists. Their agenda is different and totally secessionist but you are weakening those powers which trust India and participate in elections and fight to live an honourable life in Jammu and Kashmir,” she had stated. Shahnawaz Hussain said that the success of Tiranga rally was a loud message to Muftis from their hometown that not only is Tiranga unfurled in Kashmir but is now celebrated in Kashmir by the local population.
“Local population has no problem with BJP or the national flag, but both BJP and Tiranga in Kashmir have always been pinching to the politicians who are behaving like agents of others,” said Syed Shahnawaz. He said that the new Kashmir signifies peace and prosperity and peace have understood that BJP’s Vikas agenda was going to transform the life of a common man in J&K who has been deprived of the basic developmental facilities.
What Mehbooba had stated:
• In the month of July, 2017, Mehbooba had warned that if Article 370 and 35-A tinkered with, then there would be no one in the state to hold the tricolor.
• On February 25, 2019, Mehbooba said that people of J&K will not pick up the national flag.
• On October 23, 2020, PDP president said “We will not raise the national flag till the time our flag, which was robbed from us, is back in our hand”.
• On November 9, 2020, she said “We will hold tricolour and J-K flag together”.
