Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 18: The open disregard to the communiqués of premier investigating agencies dealing with financial corruption by government employees could be gauged from the fact that the Anti-Corruption Bureau Srinagar wing has repeatedly been asking for details from the coaches to enquire about alleged embezzlement of funds of Khelo-India but the latter have not been sharing the same since last many months, due to reasons best known to them.
In the latest development Manager of K K Hakku Stadium has shot notices to all the coaches to furnish details within three days without any fail but there are bleak possibilities that the coaches would oblige, given their past behaviour. According to documents in possession of Early Times, the issue deals with the alleged embezzlement of funds sanctioned by Union government under Khelo-India initiative for 2016-17. “The coaches had reportedly shown spending the funds and furnish details in the balance sheets as per their previous practice. But this time the Union government has been ensuring that the funds should reach the real beneficiaries and the transaction of funds to the bank account of the beneficiaries should be shared with the funds’ sanctioning agencies”, sources said, adding that in 2016-17, some of the funds spend by coaches were not found proper transaction records and it was also alleged that funds were embezzled by the coaches, following which an investigation was started.
Sources further said that the investigation over the alleged embezzlement of funds begun in the year 2018 vide verification number 21/2018, ACBK, Srinagar. “After starting investigation the ACB started seeking details but in the last two years the details were not furnished by the coaches so far. The Divisional Sports Officer vide letter number SOJ/638/442-43, dated 28/09/2020, followed by reminder number SOJ/638/524 dated 22/10/2020 had sought details but all in vain”, sources said.
Sources further said that the corruption watchdog agency has taken serious view of the matter and directed the Sports authorities for furnishing the details from all the coaches in a given format. The Manager of KK Hakku Stadium Ashok Singh has forwarded notices to all the coaches, asking them to furnish details.
The letter reads, “With reference to this office letter number followed by reminder in regard to the submission of documents on the format stand issued pertaining to Khelo India 2016-17, is still awaited after lapse of considerable time. Your unenthusiastic approach in the matter has been viewed very seriously by the higher authorities. You are advised to submit the required information/ documents within 3 days without any fail”, the letter dated 14/12/2020 written by Manager KK Hakku Stadium Ashok Singh reads.
Speaking to Early Times, Ashok Singh said that the letter was forwarded by the higher authorities and same was forwarded to the Coaches.
