EARLY TIMES REPORT

SRINAGAR, Dec 21: The rich and diverse cultural heritage of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh that used to be depicted by the wall calendars of Jammu & Kashmir Bank would no longer be seen in 2021 as the bank authorities have decided not to print the calendars this time around.
The step has been necessitated due to the economic situation that has emerged following the spread of Corona Virus. As the virus has broken the back of economy across the globe the authorities of Jammu & Kashmir Bank have decided to go for austerity measures. This would cut down the cost that is incurred on the printing of wall calendars and diaries.
A circular issued by the bank has said that this time around no hard copies of the bank wall calendar would be available to the people of union territory. Instead of this the bank has decided to roll out digital calendars in due course of time. The bank authorities have also decided not to print the diaries and here too the digital version would be rolled out.
“The Bank has been distributing Calendars and Diaries to its customers and the general public for decades so far which has created a special emotional connect between the bank and the masses. With the digitalization of various functional areas of our daily life post COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Finance, Govt of India vide their office memorandum dated 02-09-2020 decided/directed all government organizations including banks to opt for digital calendars and diaries w.e.f 2020 for economizing the expenses, wider reach and efficacy. Consequently no Calendars and Diaries in hard form will be printed for the upcoming year,” reads the circular number 589 issued by Vice President (BSD) of Jammu & Kashmir Bank.
The circular further reads, “The Digital Calendars shall be rolled out in due course of time which shall hopefully receive as much applaud and acceptance from the people as has been with the physical form so far. All staff members are advised to communicate to the public the initiative taken by the bank for digitalization of Calendars from 2021 to align with the aforesaid change for strengthening the decades old emotional capital of the bank with the general public.”
In the past the Jammu & Kashmir Bank calendars were a hit among the people since they depicted the rich cultural heritage of the union territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. This time around the people more so those who are interested in culture and heritage have been disappointed as the wall calendars would not be printed for the next year.
