Early Times Report

REASI, Dec 23: An auto driver of Pouni tehsil in this Reasi district in the Jammu division is taking the people for a ride and so far the concerned authorities have failed to act against him thereby emboldening him to repeat his ‘wrong doings’.
A group of locals while narrating the tale to Early Times said that the auto driver drives his auto on the 11 kilometers stretch in Pouni adding that the driver stops his auto once the black topped road ends. He says that he cannot move beyond the black topped end as it would cause damage to his vehicle.
“The auto driver ensures that the commuter should suffer and drops much before the final destination of the said commuter. At the same time he overcharges the commuters and abuses as well as harasses the commuter who raises questions over the fare,” said the locals.
The locals said that a fraudulent letter was produced by the auto driver in the office of ARTO Reasi after it came to the fore that he is cheating people. In the letter it has been written that the said auto driver is honest and sincere and does not overcharge the commuters. It was only after Early Times carried out a story that the auto driver was asked to produce the letter.
Sarpanch Sudeen Neelam Kumari said that she approached the ARTO Reasi with a complaint in this regard adding that no action has been taken so far. The Sarpanch as well as locals demanded that Deputy Commissioner Reasi should constitute a team in order to ascertain facts about the wrong doings of the auto driver.
SHO Pouni Ajay Singh said that he would look into the matter and that it would be ensured that no injustice is done to the people. In the meantime it has been leant that the auto driver enjoys the patronage of RTO agent for the Pouni area.
