Humiliating defeat in Nowshera spoilsports BJP’s victory enjoyment
12/25/2020 11:30:38 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 25: Although the party has performed well in Jammu region, BJP’s humiliating defeat in Nowshera constituency has spoil- sported victory enjoyment.
Nowshera is the home constituency of BJP’s outspoken president of J&K, Ravinder Raina who was seen dancing with party workers in a viral video after declaration of the result.
Nowshera is considered a citadel of BJP because the party's president had won election from this constituency in the year 2014 with a comfortable majority. While BJP's national leadership is claiming that people have voted in favour of the party in overwhelming manner, defeat of party candidate in Nowshera seat has spoiled party’s enjoyment. Furthermore the BJP has lost this seat to PDP.
PDP candidate Manohar Singh secured 10579 votes while BJP candidate Mohinder Singh got 7675 votes. Victory of the PDP candidate from the area, which was earlier considered as a stronghold of the Saffron Party, has added worries to the party and also exposed local leadership.
Wishing anonymity, a senior BJP leader revealed that defeat of party candidate from the constituency represented by outspoken J&K president has soured the taste of the victory because party has lost to PDP, which is highlighting this victory at national level to give a message that party has won from a Hindu majority seat. “It is a big setback to Ravinder Raina, who is claiming to be an international leader”, he said and regretted that instead of establishing contact with the people at grass-root level BJP leaders were trying to project themselves as national or international leaders.
In the social media, residents of Nowshera are taunting Ravinder Raina for dancing on the tunes of Punjabi songs to celebrate the party's victory by posting results of Nowshera constituency.
