Delimitation may take 10 more months to get completed
Jammu set to get equal share, hegemony of Kashmir centric leaders to end

Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 29: Speculations are rife that the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir can get delayed by one more year as delimitation process has not been completed yet.
According to the media reports the delimitation exercise aimed at redrawing the boundaries of the assembly and parliamentary constituencies can take time to get completed.
The delimitation commission, which was constituted in March this year, is mandated to fix boundaries of 90 Assembly segments and reserve seats for Schedule Castes (SC) and Schedule Tribes (ST).
Media reports claim that the panel has not reached to the conclusion yet and would take some more time to arrive at the consensus.
“It probably would take over ten months more to fix the boundaries of assembly segments in J&K as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has badly affected the process for a long time and halted the work over it,” the media reports stated.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “Whenever assembly elections are held in J&K, both Jammu and Kashmir regions will have equal stakes. There is every possibility about a leader from Jammu becoming the J&K chief minister. During the past seventy years Kashmir centric leaders never allowed any Dogra leader to hold the highest office. The former regimes since 1947 ensured that numbers remain tilted in favour of the Kashmir centric politicians and they call the shots.”
He said, “Now, the times have changed and people in Jammu are eagerly waiting for the delimitation exercise to end. Even if takes a year it won’t matter. Jammuties want that they should get due representation in the Legislative Assembly. They have been waiting for it for the past seventy years. One more year won’t matter.”
An observer said, “The results of the recently held District Development Council elections are an indication that Kashmir centric parties are a divided house and Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) is nothing other than a failed experiment. This time around Kashmir centric politicians cannot do anything to prevent leaders from Jammu to play a frontal role.”
