Muslims help perform last rites of young Kashmiri Pandit in Baramulla

BARAMULLA, Jan 3: The Muslim neighbourhood in this north Kashmir district helped to perform the last rites of young Kashmiri Pandit on Sunday.
Family sources said that as soon as the news of the death of 28-year-old Lokesh Bhat locally known as Raju from the area spread, members of Muslim community came together to help in performing his last rites.
Lokesh has received serious injuries after a pillion he was riding had met with an accident few months back near Court Road, Baramulla.
Satish Bhat father of the deceased had been living here in Baramulla town since decades as he was posted in the telecommunications department.
Though many Pandit families left the valley after militancy erupted here but many Kashmiri Pandits like Satish Bhat stayed here with their Muslim brethren.
It is worthwhile to mention here that, the cultural traditions and ethos among the local communities have set an example of brotherhood and mutual understanding, according to local Kashmiri pandith that they exchange their sorrows and joyful moments with each other.
He told Early Times that, “One should understand that humanity and Kashmiriyat is above all, this land belongs to Kashmiri’s and we have seen many tough times in the past as well, but despite that we love each other like anything.”
However many people including the members from Pandit community especially from Veerwan and other areas visited the home of the deceased to express condolences with the deceased family.
The last rites of the deceased was performed in Tawheedgunj area of Baramulla town, that itself is a unique identity of all religions, the Mosque, Mandir and Gurduwara are situated at the same place where people of all religions come to worship without any obstacles. Meanwhile, district administration and police officials also joined hands with the locals to help them perform the last rites.
