EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Jan 3: A teacher from Chingi Makwal area of Billawar allegedly kidnapped and assaulted one of his former students a few days back after the latter objected to years long bonded labour, however acting upon a complaint filed by the victim, Billawar Police arrested the accused teacher.
Ravinder Singh, son of Jawant Singh resident of Chingi Makwal, a teacher posted at Government High School, Chingi Makwal, on December 31 kidnapped his former student, Vijay Kumar son of Fallo Ram of the same area, according to sources. “The teacher called up the boy for a meeting. He (Ravinder Singh) along with his at least 8 friends was heavily drunk. Vijay reached at the designated place of meeting where they forcefully dragged him in SUV vehicle (Bolero), and took the vehicle 8 kilometer away from the spot”, said Tarsem Singh, a chemist, who along with other people of the area rescued Vijay from the clutches of the teacher.
“We took him (victim) to government hospital for treatment, and later-on some villagers headed towards local Sarpanch who rushed to Police Post Ramkote, on basis of statement made by the victim, Police registered a case against the accused person”, he said, adding that being poor is the only fault of the victim.
“Earlier, fearing wrath of his teacher, Vijay used to perform menial works at teacher’s home like grazing his animal and collect fodder for animal, but now he wanted to focus on his study since he is studying in class 12th and he was refusing to work for his teacher which apparently made his teacher angry”, he said, adding that to satisfy his ego on that fateful day the innocent was kidnapped and assaulted brutally.
“They stripped him off and brutally thrashed him for not obeying ‘fatva’ issued by a teacher”, Tarsem claimed, adding that entire village is angry over the act of teacher, and people of area demanded his immediate transfer from the area and strict action to be taken against him for his inhuman and cruel act against his former student.
SHO Billawar, Vishal Kumar when contacted said that the teacher has been arrested. “A case on basis of complaint lodged by Vijay Kumar and others vide FIR 1/2021 under section 342, 323 stands registered against teacher Ravinder Singh ‘’, he added.
