EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, Jan 24: Ahead of 72nd Republic day celebrations, multi layer security arrangements have been made in the Valley including north Kashmir to thwart any anti national activities in and around the parade venues.
"Security has been beefed up in Srinagar and other places in Kashmir ahead of the Republic Day on Tuesday as forces have been deployed in massive numbers around the venues of the January 26 functions across the valley, officials said on Sunday.
Random checking of vehicles and frisking of passengers was being done at several places including in north Kashmir districts.
In the past north Kashmir has remained a hot bed of militancy, and recently Pakistan made ceasefire violations in Tangdar area of Kupwara district on January 22.
However the presence of security forces around vital installations in and around the city as well as other district headquarters has been increased, the officials said.
They said that the security has also been strengthened around the venues for the Republic Day functions, including around Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium here where the main function in the valley would take place.
The security agencies have so far expressed confidence that the day will pass off incident-free.
Likewise the security forces have been asked to remain alert and more check-points have been erected in the city and other district headquarters in the valley, where the concerned Deputy Commissioners will take a salute on function.
He said that a multi layered security has been put in place and domination and surveillance of areas was being undertaken, adding drones will also be used.
Here full dress rehearsal with regard to Republic Day was held at District Police Lines and other places across the Kashmir valley, where the concerned Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDCs) and other officials were the chief guests. The National Flag was hoisted entusictically and they inspected the parade, the march past was presented by the contingents of JKP, IRP, CRPF, NCC, Home Guard and school children.
Pertinently India will celebrate its 72nd Republic Day as it prepares to memorialize the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect in 1950.
