Katra Sports Complex to be developed as centre of excellence: Shrine Board

Jammu, Jan 29: The Governing Council of Shrine Board’s Sports Complex met for eighth meeting at Katra in Reasi District of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.
The Governing Council took a number of important decisions for nurturing sporting talent and arranging several sports events in the coming months to promote sports and games in the area.
The Governing Council lauded the achievements of the sports persons trained and groomed at the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex in various national and international level competitions.
In this context, the Council congratulated Jyoti Baliyan, para archer of the Sports Complex, who has been awarded Rani Laxmibai award by the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
Mr. Danish Sharma of the Shrine Board has also excelled in judo for which he was awarded by the J&K Government with Sher-i-Kashmir sports award.
Dr. Ashok Bhan, Member Shrine Board and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Sports Complex, chaired the meeting, which was attended by Ramesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board; Vivek Verma, Additional CEO; Hem Kant Prasher, Chief Accounts Officer; Dr. Sunil Sharma, Dy. CEO, SMVDSB; and a number of prominent sports persons who are members of the Governing Council viz. Sanjeeva Singh, former International Archer (Arjuna/Dronacharya Awardee); Ashwani Nachappa, former International Athlete (Arjuna Awardee); Krupali Singh, National Gymnastics Coach (Arjuna Awardee); and Kuldeep Handoo, eminent wushu player and National Coach (Dronacharya Awardee).
Ms. Nachappa participated in the discussions through virtual mode.
The Council while discussing the draft Calendar of Activities of the Sports Complex desired for organising talent hunt by holding trials in the educational institutions of the area with a view to catch them at earlier stages so that thereafter the selected boys and girls could be imparted specialised coaching to groom them for participation in various national and international competitions.
The meeting, interalia, also held preliminary deliberations for holding various competitions at the Sports Complex in the coming months.
The Chairman of the Governing Council desired for organising training programmes for the sports teachers in regard to online sports modules for the benefit of the upcoming sports persons of the area.
On this occasion, Mr Handoo was felicitated by the Governing Council for having been awarded with Dronacharya Award recently, by presenting to him a memento.
