early times report
jammu, Jan 29: Despite the implementation of the Central Right to Information (RTI) Act in newly carved out Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the Directorate of School Education (DSE) Department Jammu has not been complying with the rules under the new Act and showing thumb to the RTI applications by not giving any replies.
Sources told Early Times that it has been observed many RTI applications are pending with Directorate of School Education (DSE) Jammu. These have not been replied even after the expiry of time period under the Act.
An RTI applicant had filed two separate RTI applications under RTI Act 2005 with DSE Jammu on different issues seeking information on 17-12-2020 but it has been more than 40 days, there was no reply or any kind of communication from the PIO DSE Jammu received.
The RTI applications were filed with the department for seeking information about utilization of transport vehicles of the department and the manpower engaged with them. Similarly another RTI application was about seeking information about the government accommodations being utilized by the employees of the School Education Department but astonishingly no reply was received from the directorate even the after the lapse of 40 days, which clearly indicates that that department has trying to conceal the facts. By doing so it has been openly undermining Central RTI Act 2005, which was implemented in J&K UT.
Pertinently, there is a guideline as per RTI Act 2005, it is mandatory for the PIOs of any departments to respond to the RTI applications within 30 days.
