Jashn-e-Jamhuriya in Jammu: Cultural Academy ignores Dogri poets
1/31/2021 12:16:18 AM
early times report
jammu, Jan 30: Dogri poets are up in arms against the organizers of "Jashn-e-Jamhuriya" for not extending the invitation to them for the poetic festival here.
The event was organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) as a part of Republic Day celebrations.
"Although the Dogri language has been given the status of an official language of J&K UT but step motherly treatment to the language is continuing. A large number of renowned poets of Urdu and Hindi languages were invited to attend the 2-day function held at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium Jammu but the Dogri poets were not included," said one of the poets.
"It would have been very beneficial for the upliftment of Dogri poetry to invite language knowing poets on such a big platform. Though Dogri language has been given status of official language then it is the duty of the government as well as the organising agencies to include poets of Dogri and other languages of the JK UT," said Gyaneshwar Sharma, a renowned Dogri poet.
He further said that it is a matter of great proud that presently a good quality work on Dogri language and poetry is going on in Jammu which needs more encouragement from the administration.
Another Dogri poet said, "We were expecting that this time Dogri poets will be given space in the poetic festival as the programme was being held in Jammu but it was very shocking for us that it remained confined to Urdu and Hindi poetry only. The JKAACL didn't take any initiative to promote Dogri poetry on such a huge platform."
Sources informed that the JKAACL incurred huge expense for organizing the programme. The Urdu and Hindi poets invited from across the county were honoured and felicitated with pashmina shawls and mementos. Each poet was given Rs 25000 for participating in the programme. Besides, they were provided travelling allowances and accommodation.
When Early Times contacted the Additional Secretary JKAACL, said that as far as his information is concerned the Jammu office of Cultural Academy was not involved in organising this programme.
Despite repeated attempts to the Secretary JKAACL could not be contacted.
