Felicitates 26 meritorious girls
Udhampur Admin celebrates National Girl Child Day

UDHAMPUR, Feb10 : An impressive function was today organized by District Administration Udhampur on culmination of National Girl child Week and celebration of National Girl child day under ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme.
Additional District Development Commissioner, Ashok Kumar was the chief Guest, while President Municipal Council, Dr Jogeshwar Gupta, BDC Chairman Udhampur, Balwan Singh, BDC Chairman Tikri, Nisha Sharma were the special invitees on the occasion.
A scintillating cultural programme was presented by students and local artists, while Anganwari workers presented a theme based skit, which was the main attraction of the event.
Khushi, a budding singer of the district was declared as Brand Ambassador BBBP 2021-22. She was also felicitated with a cash reward of Rs 10,000.
Speaking on the occasion, the ADDC congratulated the participants who attended the function and sought cooperation of the people in generating awareness among the masses about the save girl child campaign. He said that the main objective of celebrating this day is to abolish different types of social discrimination faced by the girls. He stressed on imparting education to the girls for their empowerment and emancipation. He added that the women of the Udhampur are excelling in all the fields and lauded the performance of various women achievers like Baby Khushi and others who are bringing laurels to the district. He asked the participants to sensitize the general public about the menace of female foeticide and its impact on the society.
Earlier, the programme started with lighting of the traditional lamp and followed by a welcome address by Programme Officer, ICDS Attar Chand who is also the Nodal Officer of BBBP. He highlighted the importance of the National girl child day and gave a brief of the annual action plan under BBBP and the interventions like mass communication campaign, capacity building and multi sectoral interventions made at various level to improve the Child Sex Ratio.
On the occasion, 26 girls who excelled in academics and sports were felicitated with cash awards of Rs 5000 each.
Later, a pledge for eliminating the menace of female foeticide was also administered to the audience by the Health and Nutrition Mobilizer Priya Jamwal. The function concluded with the vote of thanks by CDPO Chenani Sanjeev Sharma.
