early times report
jammu, Feb 10: After successive governments brazenly used this project as a political stunt to hoodwink people of Jammu, the much awaited multi level car park project at general bus stand is going to be inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday.
The project- approached in the year 2011, was scheduled to be completed by the end of 2016 but successive governments failed to complete the same due to 'political reasons.'
After the imposition of Governor's rule in J&K in the year 2018, work on this work was started in the real since and now Lt Governor Manoj Sinha is going to inaugurate this project on Wednesday.
Interestingly the Rs 201-crore project for the "modernisation of the General Bus Stand-cum-multi-level car parking-cum-commercial complex" was proposed in 2010-11. First foundation stone of this dream project was laid by the then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on September 2, 2013 during the NC-Congress coalition regime. But the work never started.
Lakhs of rupees were spent during the foundation stone laid function as chief minister and his cabinet ministers were present in the event.
Within two days after the government spent lakhs of rupees in foundation stone laying function, another similar event was held on October 16, 2015. This time it was late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who laid the foundation stone of the same project as chief minister of PDP-BJP coalition regime.
Initial cost of this project was Rs 201 crores which has been increased to Rs 213.8 crores due to inordinate delay by the successive state governments.
The multilevel parking project has capacity of parking 80 buses in the bus terminal, 1312 cars, 177 two-wheelers with 239 shops and dedicated space for restaurants and food courts.
n Project was approved in the year 2011 and stipulated time for completion of the project was 2016.
n On September 2, 2013, the then chief minister Omar Abdullah had laid the foundation stone of this project.
n On October 16, 2015, the then chief minister late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had laid the foundation stone of the same project.
