Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 16: Only Congress being the oldest and secular force is capable to address the genuine issues and demands of the downtrodden sections of the society including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes. It was stated by senior Congress leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, Tara Chand, while addressing a one day convention of SC/ST/OBCs at village Sarmala in Khour Block. The former Deputy Chief Minister while addressing the gathering said that Congress had played a key role in the Independence Movement and post-independence it ensured equal rights for all. He said that Congress is a secular ideology which wants equal development of all sections of the society. He said that the Constitution drafted by Baba Saheb Dr BR Ambedkar guarantees equal rights to all sections of the society including female folk. He further said that reservation was granted to the downtrodden section of the society for their upliftment and the goal is yet to be achieved. He said but some forces are trying to bring an end to the reservation granted constitutionally to these communities. He urged upon the SCs, STs and OBCs to fight against atrocities. He said that every religion enjoys equal rights in India and it all happened because of Congress. Criticizing few forces which are hell bent to disrupt the communal fabric of the nation Tara Chand said that people must support Congress party which treats every religion and person equal. During the convention the issue of restoration of reservation in promotion was also discussed and Tara Chand extended support to the employees fighting for the same.
