Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 16: The first batch of 50 MBBS students of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Vijaypur, who are presently attending classes at AIIMS Rishikesh will be shifted to Kathua soon.
Sources in the Health and Medical Education Department informed Early Times that the class work for the first batch of the MBBS students of AIIMS Vijaypur had commenced in the first week of January at AIIMS Rishikesh rather than at AIIMS Vijaypur due to delay in the filing of various faculty positions as well as identification of space and required infrastructure for MBBS course.
"The post of the Director as well as other faculty positions was not filled by the concerned authorities and it compelled the administration to start the class work of first batch at AIIMS Rishikesh", sources said, adding that the incumbent Director of AIIMS Rishikesh (mentor institute of AIIMS Vijaypur) Dr Sanjeev Misra had recently visited Kathua and AIIMS Vijaypur during which they inspected the buildings/blocks of Government Medical College Kathua campus as well as other identified locations for starting of classes of MBBS students selected for AIIMS Vijaypur.
"The J&K administration is ready to handover the identified buildings/blocks of GMC Kathua campus to start class-work of AIIMS Vijaypur", sources said, adding that the Deputy Director Administration (DDA) AIIMS Vijaypur have been informed about the proposal of shifting the MBBS batch from Rishikesh to Kathua.
Pertinently, out of the allotted 50 seats for AIIMS Vijaypur 13 are reserved for Other Backward Classes (OBCs), five seats for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and 22 seats for General Category, seven seats for Scheduled Caste Category (SC) and three for Schedule Tribes (ST) category. On February 3rd 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation of AIIMS Jammu, which is slated to be completed in 2023
