CCTVs to be installed at traffic signals under Smart City Project: J&K Traffic Police
2/17/2021 1:40:33 PM

Jammu, Feb 17 : Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police is all set to trap violators by installing closed circuit cameras at traffic signals which will help to track the violators with the challan being flashed on their registered cellphones.
The installation of high resolution cameras is a part of Smart City Project being undertaken in twin capital cities of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The violators will not be able to escape anymore from the ‘third eye’ because the cameras being installed will capture the pictures of the violators jumping the traffic lights, following which an SMS will be sent to their mobile phones in this regard,” Shiv Kumar Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Jammu here told UNI.
He added that traffic violations like not wearing helmets, wrong parking and not possessing pollution certificates, jumping signal lights is one of the highest violations reported in the recent past.
“Jumping traffic lights will no more be an easy task and to curb this violation, CCTVs are being installed on poles and on jumping the light, the challan will be flashed to the registered cellphones of the violators after getting details from the office of the Regional Transport Officer,” he said.
“Once this exercise will be set into motion, the traffic system in the city will definitely become smooth and the drivers violating traffic rules will be strictly penalized after the complete enforcement of rules,” he added.
The CCTVs on signals lights are being installed under the Smart City Project, he said and added, “modern cameras with high resolution will be installed at traffic signals under this project.”
The top cop added that these cameras will be monitored directly from the traffic police control room.
Mr Sharma had recently also said that there is no space for corruption and corrupt practices but at the same time also appealed to the people to obey traffic rules.

“Traffic Police Jammu is for the safety and security of the people and needs everyone’s cooperation,” he said.
Earlier in last year, the Traffic Wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police had also introduced an E-challan facility to smoothly facilitate exercise of fining the violators.
The Central Government has amended the Motor Vehicles Rules 1989 to clamp down on violators particularly to tighten noose against fake document holders.
