Humiliating defeat for Saffron Party: Jammu based BJP leaders proved ominous for party in Punjab
2/17/2021 11:37:47 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 17: Jammu based BJP leaders proved ominous for the party in civic bodies polls in Punjab because Saffron Party has suffered humiliating defeat in the areas where these leaders have campaigned.
First time in the history, BJP received humiliating defeat in Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Dinanagar, Batala and others areas which are near to Jammu province. These areas are considered as strongholds of the party in Punjab and Jammu based leaders were assigned the job to campaign in these areas. Instead of improving its earlier position in civic bodies of these areas, BJP performed as badly as party even failed to open its account in most of the civic bodies.
As a strategy of the party for giving impetus to the election campaign, Jammu based BJP leaders were made election incharge of Gurdaspur and Pathankot districts which are part of the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat being represented by party MP Sunny Deol.
Sources said that national leadership was of the view that Gurdaspur-Pathankot belt- touching Jammu region, is a stronghold of the party so campaign by Jammu based leaders would give additional benefits to the campaign.
Ironically during the campaign in Punjab, Jammu based party leaders asked investors in Punjab to invest in J&K. Instead of highlighting promises of party for residents of Punjab, they were more particular about listing achievements after abrogation of Article 370.
Rather than urging people to vote for party candidates in civic bodies elections, they appealed to the investors of Punjab to try their hand in J&K as the region promises ample opportunities to flourish and make a good fortune.
The Congress has won all the seven municipal corporations in Punjab that went to polls on February 14. The party has won Abohar, Bathinda, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Pathankot, Moga and Batla.
