Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 19: As Delhi High Court on Friday refused to stay summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti in money laundering case, she has to appear before agency on March 22.
Reliable sources said that ED has issued summon to Mehbooba after getting convincing evidences during raids on the residences of ex-MLA Anjum Fazli.
“Ex-MLA who was once close-aide of Mehbooba is reportedly not responding to the phone call of PDP president”, sources said and added that the non-cooperative attitude of Fazli has added woes of former chief minister. “Mehbooba Mufti is unaware of the documents and other proofs recovered by ED during raids on the residences of Fazli. Furthermore former chief minister is also not aware of the disclosures made by the ex-MLA during questioning by the ED”, sources said.
On December 26, 2020, the ED had conducted raids at the residence of Mehbooba's close aide and ex-MLA Anjum Fazli in connection with the money laundering and seized over Rs 28 lakh case after it raided the premises of Fazli, who was nominated as MLA by Mehbooba Mufti from the quota of female MLA. It was reported that after conducting raids at the residences of Fazli in Srinagar and Delhi, central agencies have virtually reached near Mehbooba Mufti because Fazli is like a shadow of former chief minister
Meanwhile in a blow to Mehbooba, the Delhi High Court refused to stay summons issued to her by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case.
Apart from seeking the quashing of summons, the ex-Jammu and Kashmir CM sought to declare Section 50 (power of ED to record statement) of the PMLA as void and inoperative. Moreover, she urged an interim stay on the summons until the question of law in relation to the constitutionality of Section 50 of the Act is decided.
