EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Mar 21: The inhabitants of remote area of Marwah continue to suffer due to official apathy since the two key posts of Tehsildar and Naib Tehsildar are vacant and seek intervention of Divisional Commissioner Jammu for filling up the vacant posts in the area.
As per the details available with Early Times, public deputation from Marwah led by Sarpanch Yurdoo Nazir Ahmed Lone met with Divisional Commissioner Jammu Raghav Langar and apprised him about the problems faced by the people of the area that remains cut off from the rest of the country for 5 months during winter.
They inform the officer that Marwah block of Kishtwar district is one of the most backward and landlocked area of Jammu and Kashmir with very limited resources due to which the local people are in extremely poor condition.
Speaking to Early Times, Sarpanch Nazir Ahmed Lone said that the government offices in the sub-division are only for namesake as most of the officials work from the district headquarters, adding that despite repeated circulars issues by the Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar to the sectoral heads of almost all the departments they have failed to make the offices functional at the sub division headquarters causing serious problems for the local residents.
“The locals have to travel for two days to reach the district headquarters that too in summers only for minor works in the government offices” said Lone. He said that Marwah has no direct road connectivity with Kishtwar and inhabitants have to first reach to Kashmir and then to Kishtwar making it almost two-days of journey. He said that during winters this travel has to be made on foot due to closure of all the roads.
“Posts of Tehsildar and Naib Tehsildar are vacant due to which the local residents are facing serious problems.
Nowpachi-Hanzal road has been abandoned due to the non-issuances of forest clearance,” said Lone, adding that the department must be directed to expedite the matter at the secretariat level for early
He said that despite being Sub Division, the government has yet to start the process for construction of SDM office and urged upon newly assigned Divisional Commissioner that the District administration be directed to take appropriate measures in this regard and project the demand in the ensuing district plan.
“The local residents are yet to receive Ayushman Bharat health cards due to the failure of the department to register the locals.
There is need to hold public camps at least once in a month at the sub division level so that the local residents are not forced to travel to Kishtwar for redressal of their issues” said Lone.
Lone said that Divisional Commissioner has assured to look into the issue raised by them added that they also demanded that all the vacant posts in Sub Division Marwah to be fulfilled with locals to be given preference in the jobs.
