After ED summon Mehbooba Mufti goes soft
3/21/2021 11:45:44 PM

Early Times Report
jammu, Mar 21: Even as the former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party, president, Mehbooba Mufti had been spewing venom against New Delhi, she seems to have softened her stand after getting a summon from the Enforcement Directorate or ED.
While Mehbooba Mufti was initially exempted from personal appearance before the ED and now will have to appear, she seems to be avoiding any further controversies with the right- wing government since the day the summon was served.
After receiving the summon Mufti had tweeted on March 5, saying: "GOIs tactics to intimidate & browbeat political opponents to make them toe their line has become tediously predictable. They don't want us to raise questions about its punitive actions and policies. Such short-sighted scheming won't work."
But after that, her Twitter handle has been "playing safe".
Mehbooba, who would otherwise look for excuses to corner the Bharatiya Janta Party led government seems to be busy on some other issues.
Earlier Mufti had approached Delhi High Court against the summon asking her to appear before ED in connection with a money laundering case.
Mufti had also challenged "constitutional concerns" of Section 50, and any incidental provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA).
Sources said the ED has inputs about Mehbooba Mufti's involvement in such cases and wants to question her.
Interestingly, previously the National Conference had softened its stand after the property of former Chief Minister and NC patron, Dr Farooq Abdullah was attached by the same ED.
Observers said the investigating agencies like the ED, NIA and CBI have been "able to tame the Kashmiri leaders."
"Actually, most of the leaders in Kashmir know their weaknesses and the best part is that even the investigating agencies know this and thus such leaders get tamed," quipped an observer on the condition of anonymity.
Despite repeated attempts, Mehbooba Mufti was not available for comments.
