EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Mar 21: The family members and relatives of a girl, who allegedly suffered custodial torture, blocked Shalamar Road from both sides demanding actions against the cops, who brutally thrashed the girl despite being ‘innocent’, as nothing found from her possession after her search conducted at City Police Station, this afternoon.
A crowd of relatives and family members of the girl, who was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital after being released from Police Station, gathered at Shalamar Chowk and shouted slogans and protested against the administration and Police department.
“We want justice for our innocent daughter, who is undertreated at GMC&H, she was brutally tortured at Police Station without any reason”, said the mother of the victim girl, adding that the administration should immediately suspend the cops, who despite finding nothing from the girl’s possession tortured her.
“On the basis of a complaint by a woman, who was purchasing clothes from Sunday market sale at Purani Mandi area, a Police cop deployed nearby took us to the Police station. Since we had not committed anything wrong voluntarily moved toward Police”, said the aunt of the girl, who was accompanying her in the market.
“As we reached Police Station, cop expelled me out saying that you are drunk and took the girl inside the Police station where they thrashed her mercilessly”, said the aunt who accompanied the girl and added, “When the girl came out of Police Station, she was very much scared and fell unconscious.”
“Her parents were not at home so I called neighbours and took the girl to GMC&H, where doctors admitted her and she was under treatment, then I left hospital to join other relatives at the protest site”, she claimed while addressing media persons at Shalamar Chowk.
However, denying the allegations SHO City Police Station, Joginder Singh Chib said that the girl was brought to Police Station on basis of theft complaint by a lady and later she was allowed to go home. “On the basis of complaint of a lady Santosh Devi, a girl namely Anita Kumari was brought to Police Station after her search and investigation by a lady Police cop following which she was allowed to go home”, he said, adding that allegations of beating her in Police Station are baseless.
