Tawi artificial lake site fast turning into garbage dumping yard Dumping of construction waste goes unabated, authorities in slumber 3/22/2021 11:46:36 PM Early Times Report jammu, Mar 22: The Tawi artificial lake project site is fast turning into a garbage dumping site as large heaps of construction debris could be seen along one side of bund site while the concerned authorities are in deep slumber. According to the photographs clicked during a tour of the project site, over one hundred heaps of construction debris could be seen dumped in the portion of Tawi stream, just behind the Nehru market. From the level of dumping it could be easily estimated that the dumping of the debris along with other garbage has been going on for the last many months as a large portion of the bank of Tawi has been covered with the debris. "On one hand the government has been spending huge amount on the completion of artificial lake project and after lapse of several deadlines the project is yet to be completed but the dumping of garbage is posing another threat to the incomplete project", an official said, adding that even before completion of the project, the lake site has fast turning into a dumping yard and how it would attract tourists in the lake, when it would be filled with garbage and debris. The official further said that the irrigation department was the executing agency for the completion of project but under the nose of the authorities including the Police department the dumping of waste has been going on unabated and the photographs bear testimony for gross negligence. "If the executing agencies would not be able to stop dumping of waste along the banks of the lake project site then it would be only a wastage of public money", the official said, adding that the concerned department should evolve a mechanism with the help of Police to stop dumping of garbage and other waste in the river Tawi.
