Deport Rohingyas
3/25/2021 11:58:00 PM
The government has completed the verification of 6000 Rohingyas in Jammu region and the process is still on.
It appears that this time around the helmsmen are firm on their decision to deport Rohingyas, who have settled illegally in Jammu region.
In the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State, when the issue of Rohingyas was raised by the leaders in Jammu, the Kashmir centric Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that was ruling the state at that point of time had stated that Rohingyas can't be deported as India is bound to follow international rules vis-à-vis refugees from other countries.
Despite people of Jammu region opposing the presence of Rohingyas, the Kashmir centric politicians didn't make any effort to address their concerns and allowed these illegal migrants to stay put. Even the security agencies had sounded an alert about these migrants being a security threat but the government led by Mehbooba Mufti just pushed the entire issue under the carpet.
According the officials at present more than 7,000 Rohingyas are camping in around 28 localities in Jammu region for the past several years. Most of them have settled in areas that are in close vicinity of vital security installations like Sunjuwan military station or Army camps near Belicharana and other areas.
After J&K's transition into a union territory the process of identifying these illegal migrants has been intensified, the present dispensation seems firm on its decision to clean Jammu region.
People are eagerly waiting for these Rohingyas and the migrants from other countries to be shunted out. Places where these people have settled have reportedly become a hub of illegal activities and the denizens of Jammu are fed up. They fear that if the population of the illegal migrants keeps on increasing it can lead to chaos and confusion and will create problems for the local people.
Had the former regimes acted on time, the problem of Rohingyas would not have turned so big. The laidback approach of the former rulers, who used to behave like monarchs, is responsible for many problems, including that of illegal migrants. Now, the system has changed and people are hoping that wrongs done by the erstwhile rulers won't be repeated. Sending Rohingyas back has been a long pending demand of the Jammu people and needs to be met.
