Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 9: In a significant development, the prestigious Sinthan road that connects Kishtwar District with Srinagar via Anantnag District is all set to be thrown open for vehicular movement in next 10-12 days.
As per the details available with Early Times, DDC Chairperson Kishtwar Pooja Thakur along with Vice Chairperson Saima Parveen, DDC member Tahir Masood, DDC member Faisal Hussain and officials of National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) conducted an extensive tour of Sinthan Top to inspect the snow clearance work on this important National Highway 244 which is scheduled to be open in next few days, over a month in advance as compared to last few years when this road is generally thrown open in the 2nd or 3rd week of May.
Speaking to Early Times, DDC Chairperson Pooja Thakur said that the snow clearance will take 2-3 days, adding that towards Kishtwar side, only 5 km snow clearance is required that too fresh accumulation while on Kashmir side 2-3 km snow clearance had left out.
"It will take 2-3 days to clear the road subject to no fresh weather disturbance, main snow had been cleared but fresh snowfall of 5-6 inch had again cover the road surface which will be cleared in next few days before road will thrown open for vehicular movement," said Pooja Bhandari.
She said with the opening of Sinthan road people traveling to Kashmir valley for medical treatment and other businesses related works will feel sigh of relief, adding that it will also give major relief to the people travelling to Marwah and Warwan.
Vice Chairperson Saima Parveen also called for expediting of snow clearance work at Sinthan top and Margan top roads.
Meanwhile, the visiting Chairperson, the Vice Chairperson and other members slammed the security arrangements and non-cooperation by the Sub-Division Chatroo administration since no representative from Chatroo administration accompanied them despite advance intimation was given to them.
DDC Chairperson called for cooperation from officials so that developmental activities could be boosted in the area.
