EARLY TIMES REPORT

ANANTNAG, Apr 22: After preferring silence for over two months, the authorities in Anantnag district have now finally demolished a stone crusher plant allegedly setup by a revenue officer in violation of norms.
Two revenue officers, who were responsible for reporting these violations, have been placed under suspension.
Well placed sources revealed that the officer, who is himself posted in Anantnag district, started setting up a stone crusher plant in Drein Qazigund a few months ago.
They claimed that the officers, responsible for checking and reporting such violations to district administration, had allowed the violator to go ahead with setting up the unit.
Sources said that the officer and his son were allowed to install heavy machinery despite having not done any paper work or not having sought any permission from the competent authority.
“The officer used his influence and managed to set up the unit,” they said.
They alleged that the district administration didn’t act despite having received multiple complainants against the unit. “We don’t know why the district administration preferred for so long,” they added.
A senior officer from Anantnag district administration told Early Times that the district administration has demolished the stone crusher plant on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Anantnag.
“Deputy Commissioner Anantnag took cognizance of the complaint and issued direction for its demolition. The concrete structure of the unit was demolished today by the Revenue department and the violator was directed to remove the machinery immediately,” he said.
The officer shared videos and photographs of the demolition drive carried out by the Revenue Department. The officer said that action against two Patwaris (Revenue officers), who were responsible for reporting these violations, were also taken “Both of them were placed under suspension,” he said.
In a similar exercise, the district administration also demolished a stone crusher plant at Shankerpora.
