Jammu, May 22: Despite COVID-19 lockdown being in place in Jammu region, automobile dealers are selling two wheelers and four wheelers.
On Friday police had arrested the owner and other staff members of M/S Jainco Motors Rehari for defying lockdown restrictions. A case under section 188 IPC was registered against all the persons, after their bail, they were freed by the police.
Earlier this week Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Jammu had issued notices to various automobile dealers for violation of Section 192B (2) of Motor Vehicles Act 1988 and had blocked the user IDs of many dealers.
The section 192B (2) of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, it has been provides: “Whoever, being a dealer, fails to make an application for the registration of a new motor vehicle under the second proviso to sub-section (1) of section 41 shall be punishable with fine of fifteen times the annual road tax or the lifetime tax of the motor vehicle whichever is higher.”
The RTO Jammu by issuing notices to the automobile dealers has tried to stay away from the controversy that has emerged due to automobile dealers carrying on with their business during the lockdown period.
Meanwhile, it has been learnt from reliable sources that many vehicles were sold by the automobile dealers during the lockdown period and these vehicles were registered by RTO office Jammu. “Deputy Commissioner Jammu should cross check these allegations, whether the bikes sold /registered by RTO were true or false.

However, the RTO Jammu has issued to the automobile dealers, including M/S Peaks Auto Jammu (P) Ltd Nexa, 4 A/C Gandhi Nagar, M/S Reliance Motors, Doordarshan Lane, New Plot, Janipur road, M/S Janico Automobiles Pvt.
